One of my favorite authors is Susan Jeffers. She wrote an incredibly influential book titled “Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway.” Sadly, she passed away in 2012, but her important work and message remain.
She has an incredible group of people who continue her work. Check out their website www.susanjeffers.com.
Last week, I wrote about building your success team. Right now I am reflecting on what gets in the way of pulling that team together.
Often seeking help, support or services from others involves facing a fear. Fears like:
- being judged
- being hurt
- being deceived
- being taken advantage of, and so on.
Dr. Jeffers said that “our biggest fear is that something will happen that we can’t handle.” She maintained that we have handled many challenges in life, that we thought we could not survive. I’m certain with some reflection you can find some examples in your own life.
In 2008, I lost a major coaching and consulting business client due to the recession. My counseling clients were losing jobs and some were losing their houses. Private pay clients couldn’t pay and I needed to quickly get on insurance panels and find other solutions.
At times I was afraid and uncertain. But I got through it. I kept moving forward. I took on some contract work. I asked others for help. I moved through my fear and found solutions.
Don’t let fear keep you from building the life or business of your dreams.
- You will encounter many challenges along the way.
- You will experience fear many times on your journey.
- You can move through that fear and pursue your goals anyway.
- You don’t have to be perfect!
- You don’t have to know everything.
- Life doesn’t have to be perfectly timed for you to move forward.
Don’t wait to feel safe before you step up to meet a challenge… you may never move forward.
Paint “courage” on your door! Remember that you can deal with whatever awaits you and you don’t have to go it alone.
