There was a common thread in my most engaging and meaningful discussions this past week!
Whether it was:
- Supervisees struggling with managing their work related stress, or
- My web developer sharing his personal development journey through a series of losses, or
- A group of colleagues, considering how they might set limits within their roles, while maintaining quality service, or
- My weekend meditation retreat peers and myself, answering the question “what do I need to let go of?”
The common theme being… learning to put yourself first!
What I need to “let go of” is being “busy.”
I keep thinking that things will slow down and be more balanced when … x, y or z happens. Perhaps in “a few months…or in a few years.”
I began thinking those “thoughts” 11 years ago!
The truth is we all have many choices that can support or hinder our efforts to put ourselves first.
Some of these choices include:
- Saying “no” (not adding more to your plate).
- Accepting what “is” rather than what you thought something “would be.”
- Believing that you deserve peace of mind, and that you no longer have to harbor anger or resentment for some perceived wrong.
You and I can simply make the decision to “let it go.”
By “letting go” of being “busy.” I will gain more connection and time with the people and experiences that enrich my life and matter to me most.
What do you need to “let go?” And what will you gain if you do?
